Marriage Preparation in the Parish

Those couples who wish to contract Marriage in one of the 3 churches in the parish are very welcome to contact the Parish Priest in the first instance, via the parish office on 01276 473525 or Please note that it is not possible establish a date for the Marriage until a meeting with the Parish Priest has taken place.

Diocesan guidelines require that 6 months notice be given if the Marriage is due to take place in one the churches in the Parish of Camberley and Bagshot. If the Marriage is due to take place outside of the parish then 9 months notice is required.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines marriage as follows:

"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."

Thus Marriage, according to the Catholic Church, is a partnership of the whole life contracted by a man and a woman, open to life and love.

The couple will meet on a number of occasions with the Parish Priest in order to learn about the nature of Marriage and to plan specific details of the wedding ceremony. In addition, couples are asked to attend a one day course led by Marriage Care.
